Stampin’ Up! New Magnetic Ink Pads: Your 2026–2027 Customer FAQ

As news spreads about the upcoming changes to ink pads from Stampin’ Up!, it’s completely normal to have questions.

A: No. This transition will happen gradually over the next two years.

Your current foam ink pads will continue to work beautifully, and there is absolutely no need to replace them all at once. You can continue using what you have and transition at your own pace.

The goal is a smooth, stress-free change — not a sudden replacement.

A: Felt and foam naturally behave differently.

Felt releases ink in a more controlled way. This helps:

    • Reduce over-inking

    • Minimize smudging

    • Create crisp, detailed impressions

If you’re stamping bold, solid images, you may need to tap your stamp on the pad slightly more. However, many stampers find that felt pads need re-inking less often overall and appreciate the cleaner, more precise finish.

It’s simply a different stamping experience — and many crafters love the added control.

    A: Here’s the timeline:

    • The 2026–2028 In Colors will debut in the new magnetic felt pads with the May–August 2026 Catalog.

    • Existing core colors will remain in the current pad style through 2027.

    • In 2027, all ink colors will transition as part of a planned color refresh.

This phased rollout allows everyone to adjust comfortably.

A: Yes, they will fit in existing ink pad storage systems.

However, because storage was originally designed for the previous case style, the fit may not be perfectly tailored to the magnetic design. Stampin’ Up! is exploring future storage solutions that will integrate more seamlessly with the new pads.

A: Several factors contribute to the updated pricing, including:

    • The addition of magnets in the case

    • A higher amount of ink in each pad (more than double)

    • Manufacturing and shipping considerations

The goal is to provide a premium ink pad that delivers long-lasting performance, consistent color, and durability over time.

    A: No.

The new ink refills are specifically formulated for felt ink pads. Mixing old foam-style refills with the new felt pads (or vice versa) can create chemical inconsistencies that may affect performance, color accuracy, or even damage the pad.

For the best results, always pair the refill with the matching pad style.

    A: Yes!

A new instructional video will demonstrate:

    • How to use the magnetic case

    • Best stamping techniques for felt pads

    • Tips for bold images

    • Key features and benefits

As more educational resources become available, I’ll be sharing them so you can feel completely confident using the new design.

    Final Thoughts

Change can feel exciting for some and uncertain for others — and both reactions are perfectly normal.

The most important thing to remember is this:

You don’t have to change anything immediately.

You can continue enjoying your current ink pads, explore the new magnetic felt pads when they arrive, and transition at whatever pace works best for you.

If you have questions, I’m always happy to help you decide what works best for your crafting style.
