Color is all around us, everywhere, and it influences us to make choices and also affects our mood.
For instance, the red stop sign tells us to STOP, or indicates that something is hot. The green traffic light tells us to GO. Blue is an indicator for cold, such as water or ice.
We can use the psychology of color to help us in our creating, whether it is card creation, scrapbooking, or home decor. Here is a list that you can refer to when starting to create your projects.

Keeping that in mind, not only does the color you pick convey mood, but the actual shade of the color can lend a hand. You have your “true” color and also “muted” colors.
When picking the right color for your project, here are a few things to think about, especially if you are scrapbooking.
- What emotion, mood, idea are you trying to convey. For scrapbooking, look at the photo and see if there is a color of the emotion or mood you want to convey.
- As each of us are different, we each look at colors differently. We have our own individual reasons and feelings toward colors. Keep this in mind when picking “your” colors.
- What is the intensity of the mood or emotion you are trying to convey. Do you want a true bright vivid color, or do you want a more subtle soft muted color.
This needs to be a fun non stressful process. It is part of the process of making your project unique.
With scrapbooking, capture the emotion or mood in the photo that really represents the event or the experience.
Using this practice may come naturally to some, but for others of us, it may take a little work and practice. Like they say… practice makes perfect. The more you try incorporating the psychology of color in your crafting, the easier it will come.
